BW: ‘Nairobi, my city, has a complexity that I myself cannot process. This is the city most familiar to me in terms of time spent there, but if I sit at a bar and just watch people doing things, it’s hard for me to imagine who they are and why. Part of this is because we do not consume their inner lives in texts, yet I am consuming the inner life of, for instance, New York all the time. If I sit and watch people in London or Paris it’s easier for me to speculate.’
